Wedi dathlu penblwydd 50 yn 2014

Ffurfiwyd Côr Meibion Cwmann yn ystod tymor gaeaf 1963-64 yn ateb i her i ganu ar lwyfan y pentref mewn cyngerdd o ddoniau lleol ar ddiwedd Ionawr 1964.  O ardal Cwmann daeth yr aelodau ac ychydig oedd y rhif, ond cymaint fu’r hwyl a’r brwdfrydedd nes penderfynu mynd ymlaen.  Aeth y sôn ar led a daeth eraill a hoffau ganu o’r ardaloedd cyfagos i ymuno a’r Côr a bu rhaid newid yr enw i Gôr Meibion Cwmann a’r Cylch.  Bu'r Côr yn ymarfer yn festri Bethel  ac wedyn yn Ysgol Coedmor.  Gwnaed defnydd achlysurol hefyd o festri Brondeifi ond dros y blynyddoedd yn festri Capel Soar yng nghanol y dref y bu’r ymarferion.  Erbyn hyn mae’r olwyn wedi troi eto a `nol yn festri Capel Brondeifi y cynhelir yr ymarferion `nawr.  Mae dyled y Côr i swyddogion y capeli i gyd yn fawr iawn.

Celebrated 50th birthday in 2014

The choir was set up during the 1963-64 winter in response to a request for participants in a local talent evening to be held at the end of January 1964. Most of the members at that time came from the Cwmann area but such was the enthusiasm and the fun enjoyed that evening that it was decided to continue.
Soon news of the choir formation spread in the area and others from surrounding districts joined.  It was then decided to call the choir Cwmann and District Male Choir.  The choir practised in Bethel vestry and at Coedmor School.  Brondeifi vestry was also used occasionally but over the years the vestry of  Soar Chapel in Lampeter became the main practise venue.  By now the choir are back in the vestry at Brondeifi.  The choir is very appreciative for the use of all these venues.

Mae naw cyfeilydd wedi gwasanaethi’r Côr ers y cychwyn cyntaf – pedwar dyn a pump merch.  Mae tair o'e merched wedi priodi  aelodau o’r Côr.  Tri arweinydd sydd wedi bod, sef Olifer Williams (gweler isod), Elwyn Davies a’n harweinydd presennol Mrs. Elonwy Davies.

There have been nine accompanists since the choir started - four man and five ladies. Three of the ladies have married members of the choir.  There have been three conductors, the first being Oliver Williams (seen below) followed by Elwyn Davies and our current conductor Mrs Elonwy Davies.

Ni fu’r Côr erioed a’i fryd ar gystadlu. Cynnal cyngherdda i gwahanol elusenau ac hefyd rhoi ei gwasanaeth yn rhad bob blwyddyn i gartrefi henoed ac ysbytai yw'r nôd ac nid oes nemor i lwyfan yn yr ardaloedd yma na fu’r Côr arno rywbryd.  Maent wedi canu tu allan i Gymru hefyd e.e ym Mryste, Birmingham, Grays Inn Road a Neuadd Albert Llundain heb son am y teithio tramor e.e. yr Iseldiroedd, Ffrainc, Canada, De Africa, America, Patagonia, Awstralia a Seland Newydd.

The choir has never been very keen on competeing but prefer to hold concerts for various charities and also offer free concerts to older peoples' homes and hospitals.  There are very few places in the area where the choir has not performed at some stage.  The choir has also performed in Bristol, Birmingham, Grays Inn Road and the Albert Hall, London in addition to members singing in Holland, France, Canada, South Africa, America, Patagonia, Australia and New Zealand.

Mae corau Meibion led led Cymru yn cael trafferth i ddenu aelodau newydd.  Mae hyn wedi bod yn wir hefyd am Gôr Meibion Cwmann a’r Cylch, ond yn y ddwy flynedd diwethaf ni wedi cael 6 aelod newydd.  Ni yn 45 mewn rhif yr aelodaeth ar hyn o bryd.  Bydd yna groeso mawr i
aelodau newydd.

Most Male Voice Choirs are currently having difficulty in recruiting new members and this was also true of Cwmann Choir but we have in the last 2 years had 6 new members - we currently have 45 members.  We will give new members a very warm welcome.
